Obesity has become a common problem these days. It has become a necessity to fight this disease in order to live a healthy life. Obesity increases the risk of many heart diseases and diabetes etc in a human body. Those who are obese find it really difficult to carry out any physical activity and hence cannot lose weight. In order to lose weight they undergo these weight loss surgeries to prevent themselves from the trap of these very serious and risky diseases. Fat once accumulated in the body takes lots of efforts to go. There are various slankeoprasjon that are performed by the Norwegians and most of these are performed in Rega and Latvia.
The four most widely known slankeoprasjon are-
- Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery–
On the top of the stomach, a small pouch is made during the surgery. This is ideally the only section that will receive the food; making a limitation to the amount of food that you can eat at one time. The new pouch is connected to the small intestine. Food directly flows from the pouch to the intestine although the stomach continues to form digestive juices. The attached part of the stomach secretes these juices into the small intestine. This is really helpful to decrease the calorie intake and thus help burn calories better.
- Laparoscopic adjustable gastric binding– in this surgery a inflatable balloon with an adjustable gastric band is fixed around the upper part of the stomach. This creates a pouch sort of thing above the band with a very narrow opening to the lower part. The doctor places a port under the skin of the abdomen and a tube is connected to the port and the band. This surgery too restricts the food intake and hence helps you burn much more calories than you take.
- Sleeve gastrectomy– this involves removal of a part of the stomach from the body which thus reduces the amount of food that it can hold. The remaining section is formed into a structure which is tube like. It produces loss of appetite secreting the hormone gherlin, which helps you to lessen the desire to eat more.
- Biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch–
Similar to Sleeve gastrectomy, this surgery too involves the removal of a large part of stomach. Only the valve that releases food to the intestine is left along with the duodenum. This section is reattached to the end of the intestine to allow the flow of juices into it. This also like the other surgeries decrease the food intake and thus help in burning more calories.
All these weight loss methods have been proven to decrease the risk of the diseases by almost about 30%. These surgeries have helped millions of people around the globe and have decreased the mortality rate to a very great extent.
